Position Overview
The Interoperability & Networking SME provides surge expertise when projects need deeper analysis of communications, networking, interoperability, data exchange, and resilient connectivity. This role helps project pods understand how network design and interface behavior affect a capability’s mission value and how it is employed.
Why This Role Matters
A capability is only as effective as its connections. This role examines whether communications and data exchange support the intended mission across systems and organizations. Specialist review identifies interoperability dependencies that general operational analysis may not resolve.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Interoperability & Networking SME will:
- Assess network architectures, data paths, interfaces, protocols, transport options, gateways, and interoperability dependencies relevant to assigned projects.
- Evaluate what degraded or contested communications mean for the mission, along with network resilience, operator burden, and integration friction.
- Support technical interviews, industry-partner discussions, REX/event planning, and evidence collection for networking-related questions.
- Identify non-materiel implications for employment, training, architecture, procedures, and joint integration.
- Contribute SME findings directly to CARs, TTPs, CONOPS, CONEMPs, and transition recommendations.
Required Skills and Experience
- 10+ years of relevant experience in tactical networks, communications, C5ISR, data transport, interoperability, RF/network integration, or related systems.
- Ability to explain network behavior and tradeoffs to operational and nontechnical audiences.
- Strong written communication and field-event support skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with joint or multi-system integration (strongly preferred).
