POSITION SUMMARY
PAC GROUP LLC and Partners is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Material Handling Laborer to support U.S. Marine Corps uniform alteration and fitting operations at MCRD Parris Island.
The Material Handling Laborer provides essential support in the alterations and fittings of military uniforms for service members. This role ensures uniforms are prepared, fitted, transported, and maintained to meet U.S. Marine Corps standards, working closely with tailors, seamstresses, and fitters.
This position directly supports military readiness by keeping the alterations and fittings shop organized, stocked, and running efficiently so uniforms are properly prepared and returned to service members in a timely manner.
The successful candidate will demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to work efficiently in a structured, fast-paced military environment.
The Material Handling Laborer will work closely with tailors, fitters, supervisors, customer-service personnel, and other team members to ensure garments are properly prepared, moved, and maintained throughout the alterations process.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Garment Preparation and Support
- Assist with uniform fittings by preparing garments, organizing fitting rooms, and supporting tailors during alterations.
- Perform basic alterations (hemming, sewing on patches, attaching buttons, steaming/pressing garments) under supervision.
- Measure and mark garments as directed by supervisors or tailors.
- Operate sewing machines, pressing equipment, and other tools as trained.
- Perform quality checks to ensure uniforms meet military standards before returning items to service members.
Material Handling and Transport
- Transport uniforms and alteration materials within the shop and to designated storage areas.
- Support inventory control of uniforms, alteration supplies, and shop equipment.
- Report issues, operational delays, or material shortages to supervisory staff in a timely manner.
- Minimize unnecessary material waste while maintaining quality and accuracy.
Shop Organization and Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the alterations and fittings area, ensuring tools and supplies are stocked.
- Properly store tools, supplies, and materials when not in use.
- Maintain an organized workstation to promote efficiency and safety.
- Follow all equipment operating procedures and manufacturer safety requirements.
Customer Service
- Provide professional, courteous, and timely customer service to U.S. Marine Corps personnel.
- Ensure all inquiries, concerns, and special garment requests are handled with accuracy, discretion, and a commitment to excellence.
- Handle customer uniforms and personal property with care and accountability.
- Protect customer information and maintain appropriate confidentiality and discretion.
Teamwork and Communication
- Assist tailors, seamstresses, and fitters in preparing garments, conducting basic alterations, and transporting items.
- Support coworkers when workload or production requirements increase.
- Comply with safety, security, and confidentiality requirements in accordance with government and company policies.
- Willingness to learn, cross-train, and become knowledgeable in other functional areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of Team PAC GROUP LLC and its customer.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to follow instructions, learn quickly, and work in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
- Basic knowledge of sewing techniques, fabric handling, or willingness to be trained.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work with diverse teams and military personnel.
- Must be eligible to work on a military installation and pass background checks required by the Department of Defense.
- Willingness to learn, cross-train, and become knowledgeable in other functional areas.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of formal tailoring or fashion-related training or coursework.
- Experience in garment handling, tailoring, or alterations (on-the-job training provided if not previously trained).
- Previous experience working with military uniforms or military personnel.
- Experience working on a U.S. military installation.
- Knowledge of military uniform standards, particularly those related to USMC dress codes.
- Experience working in a uniform shop, tailor shop, alteration facility, or garment-handling environment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Indoor tailoring and fitting environment with access to sewing machines, ironing stations, and fitting rooms.
- Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, bending, and use of hands and fingers.
- Fast-paced, detail-oriented environment with peak workloads during ceremonial and seasonal uniform updates.
- May require occasional extended hours during high-demand fitting periods (e.g., graduations, ceremonies, or inspections).
- Structured and regulated setting with strict quality and delivery standards in support of U.S. Marine Corps operational needs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
