Position: Tugboat Captain – 100T

Location: Groton, Connecticut
Compensation: Highly competitive, based on experience
Employment Type: Full-Time (on-site; no remote option)

Hourly Rate Range: $600-$900 an hour (full-time)

 

Position Overview

Team PAC Group LLC is seeking an experienced Tugboat Captain to operate coastal and offshore tugs, filling both captain and relief captain roles. The successful candidate will join a growing, collaborative team supporting all aspects of marine operations, including shorefront construction, coastal and offshore deck barge and cargo projects, and towing services. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Groton, Connecticut. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.

 

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Valid Coast Guard Merchant Mariner’s Credential
  • 100 Ton Master License
  • Master of Towing endorsement
  • STCW Certification
  • Valid Radar Endorsement
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • FCC Radio/Telephone Operator Permit
  • Valid TWIC card (preferred)
  • Experience with twin screw tugboats
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test and physical
  • Physically able to ensure personal and crew safety
  • Adequate vision (no uncorrectable color blindness or impairment)
  • Adequate hearing
  • Ability to walk and stand on wet surfaces for extended periods
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Able to access all points of a vessel in varying climates and environments

Key Responsibilities

  • Report to the Vice President or designated representative
  • Supervise all crew members on the assigned vessel
  • Serve as Master of a tug or towing vessel
  • Safely and efficiently manage crew, vessel performance, and tow operations
  • Serve as Officer in Charge of the Navigation Watch
  • Assess and maintain vessel seaworthiness
  • Maintain safe and clean accommodations
  • Provide clear direction and leadership to the crew
  • Maintain vessel and crew emergency readiness
  • Organize and conduct training, drills, and safety exercises
  • Complete and maintain all required logs, records, and reports
  • Ensure proper vessel manning and watchkeeping
  • Represent PAC Group LLC professionally with clients, pilots, terminal personnel, and the public
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by General Manager or designee
  • Physically able to lift 30 lbs and pull 60 lbs for at least 20 feet
