Location: James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Corner of Lamont and Veterans Way, Mountain Home, Nashville, TN 37684

Position Overview:
The Neurology Physician will provide comprehensive neurological care to eligible veterans at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Nashville, TN. The primary responsibilities include diagnosing, treating, and managing neurological conditions, as well as performing clinical assessments and consultations. The role requires a commitment to delivering high-quality care and participating in the medical center’s continuous improvement initiatives. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Neurology Care: Provide full-spectrum neurological care, including the diagnosis, management, and treatment of conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurological disorders.
  • Patient Assessments: Conduct thorough neurological evaluations, including patient history, physical exams, and diagnostic testing (e.g., EEG, EMG, MRI).
  • Consultation: Work collaboratively with other medical professionals to ensure comprehensive care, providing consultation services for other specialties as needed.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely medical records, including patient progress notes, diagnostic results, and treatment plans.
  • Supervision & Education: Supervise medical trainees, provide education on neurological disorders, and contribute to the overall medical education program at the facility.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in institutional and departmental committees to promote quality improvement and enhance patient outcomes.
  • CME Compliance: Maintain current continuing medical education (CME) requirements to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in neurology.

Qualifications:
1. Licensure and Certification:

  • License: Must hold a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • Board Certification: Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Neurology.
  • ACLS & BLS: Must hold Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications, or equivalent.

Credentialing:

  • Must meet the credentialing and privileging requirements as specified by VHA Directive 1100.20 and VHA Directive 1100.21. 

2. Experience and Competency:

  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of clinical experience in neurology is preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Must be technically proficient in performing neurological evaluations and interventions, including understanding, speaking, and writing in English fluently.
  • CME/CEU Requirements: Must maintain current CME hours as required by the facility.
  • Failure to meet CME requirements may result in the loss of privileges.

3. Citizenship Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or hold a Green Card.

  • Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Neurology by the American Board of Internal Medicine
  • Current ACLS and BLS Certifications
