Position Summary
The Field Engineer supports the on-site execution of federal and Department of Defense construction projects. This role is responsible for helping oversee daily field operations, maintaining compliance with contract requirements, supporting project schedules, and ensuring quality and safety standards are upheld throughout execution.
The Field Engineer may support multiple projects across geographically dispersed U.S. military installations and must be comfortable working independently while coordinating closely with project managers, subcontractors, inspectors, and government stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily field operations, including installation oversight, inspections, and coordination of project activities.
- Prepare and submit accurate daily field reports documenting work progress, workforce counts, equipment on site, and notable incidents.
- Manage and track Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and change orders in coordination with the project management team.
- Maintain a comprehensive project document library, including the executed contract and statement of work, drawings and renderings, approved submittals, RFI logs, and project schedules.
- Ensure safety documentation and Emergency Action Plans are current, accessible, and compliant with site requirements.
- Serve as an on-site representative of PAC Group LLC, maintaining professionalism in all communications and interactions.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with government clients, military personnel, subcontractors, inspectors, and internal project teams.
- Prepare leadership briefings, mission impact summaries, and schedule status updates for stakeholder meetings and site visits.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with Contracting Officer Representatives (CORs), base facility managers, and other government stakeholders.
- Maintain a current stakeholder directory or communication matrix to ensure proper coordination and reporting lines.
- Support leadership site visits by preparing safety reports, risk briefings, and project status summaries.
- Enforce quality standards in accordance with approved submittals, specifications, and construction documents.
- Conduct routine site inspections and document findings with photographs and written observations.
- Coordinate with quality control personnel and third-party inspectors as required by contract.
- Identify risks related to safety, schedule, budget, or quality and elevate issues promptly to project leadership.
- Maintain familiarity with site-specific Emergency Action Plans and ensure subcontractor compliance.
- Document and communicate top project risks and proposed mitigation strategies during weekly reporting cycles and leadership reviews.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of field engineering or construction management experience, preferably supporting federal, Department of Defense, or government-funded projects.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Proficiency with project management tools, scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project, and standard office applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with senior government and military stakeholders.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required base access credentials based on project assignment.
- Willingness to travel extensively and support multiple project sites as needed.
- Working knowledge of workplace safety standards and OSHA requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting DoD facility upgrades, including dining facilities, command and operations centers, and secure conference or briefing spaces.
- Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, construction scheduling tools, quality control processes, and punch list management.
- Experience supporting daily reporting, field documentation, and coordination with subcontractors and inspectors.
- Knowledge of USACE or NAVFAC project requirements.
- EM 385-1-1 safety certification.
- Experience with digital construction tools such as Procore, Autodesk Build, or Bluebeam.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction certification preferred.
