Sous Chef

Position: Sous Chef – Leadership Role
Location: Finger Lakes Area  (Onsite)

 

We seek an experienced Sous Chef to join our team at a stunning new restaurant in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York. Reporting directly to the Head Chef, the Sous Chef will be key in supporting menu design, kitchen management, and maintaining the highest culinary standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute seasonal dishes that highlight local ingredients and reflect the region’s culinary culture.
  • Collaborate with the Head Chef to design and adjust menus that pair perfectly with local wineries and adapt to both peak and off-peak seasonal tastes.
  • Assist in managing food costs (COGS) for each menu item to ensure profitability without sacrificing quality.
  • Assist with controlling kitchen labor costs and optimize efficiency, particularly during high-volume seasonal periods.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen to ensure smooth and safe operation.
  • Support the Head Chef in overseeing kitchen operations to maintain quality, consistency, and performance.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Culinary training and at least 2 years of restaurant kitchen experience (required).
  • Strong understanding of food cost control, kitchen management, and creating seasonal, high-quality dishes.
  • Passion for working with local ingredients and creating menus that pair with local wineries.
  • Adaptability to changing customer needs and the ability to manage kitchen operations during busy, high-volume periods.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to mentor and guide kitchen staff.

Schedule:

  • Full-time, with flexibility for day shifts, evening shifts, and weekend availability.

  • In-person, at our Finger Lakes restaurant. Candidates should be able to reliably commute or be willing to relocate before starting.
