Overview:
VA Boston Healthcare System is seeking experienced Medical Technicians (Phlebotomists) to provide on-site phlebotomy, specimen collection, and laboratory support services. This role supports Veterans across inpatient and outpatient settings and maintains standards consistent with national guidelines and VA policies.
Responsibilities:
• Perform patient phlebotomy, including inpatient ward rounds, inpatient/outpatient draws, ED, STAT/ASAP, and timed draws.
• Process specimens and prepare/send out samples per laboratory procedures.
• Positively identify patients before collection and specimens before testing/aliquoting.
• Safeguard electronic and paper patient information in compliance with privacy requirements.
• Identify, document, and help resolve collection/processing issues.
• Provide patient-centered, professional service and collaborate with clinical/lab stakeholders to avoid service issues/complaints.
Requirements:
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of recent phlebotomy experience.
• Technical proficiency: Must be able to speak, read, understand, and write English fluently.
• Citizenship: U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder.
• Health/infection control compliance (before start): Proof of required screenings/immunizations and bloodborne pathogen training as required by the facility.
• Schedule flexibility: Day shifts may vary; may include weekends, holidays, and overtime (no on-call/standby).
Compensation:
• Hourly Rate: $43.24/hr.
• Service Contract Act (SCA): WD $23.48/hr + $5.09/hr Health & Welfare (if benefits not provided).
Start Date:
• April 1, 2026 (period of performance begins 4/1/2026)
