Job Description
The Media Operations Analyst supports continuous 24/7 media monitoring and operational reporting within the Joint Operations Center (JOC). This role is responsible for real-time tracking, analysis, and reporting on global media and information environment activity affecting operations. The analyst serves as a frontline, identifying emerging narratives, assessing operational risk, and providing timely insights to support senior leader awareness and decision-making.
This position operates in a high-tempo environment and requires the ability to respond rapidly to breaking developments, maintain situational awareness, and coordinate closely with Public Affairs and Crisis Action Team personnel.
Requirements
Media Monitoring & Analysis
- Conduct real-time monitoring of global media and social media related to operations
- Identify breaking news and emerging narratives with potential operational impact
- Provide immediate alerts and analysis to leadership
- Track misinformation and disinformation trends and support response recommendations
Crisis Communications Support
- Provide rapid-response media analysis during crises and contingency operations
- Draft flash reports, talking points, and response recommendations
- Support Crisis Action Teams (CAT) and other operational elements
- Maintain continuous situational awareness during high-tempo events
Operational Support (24/7 Watch)
- Perform shift-based work to ensure 365-day, 24/7 coverage, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Support surge operations and time-sensitive mission requirements
- Maintain continuity of operations in dynamic operational environments
Reporting & Deliverables
- Produce daily media summaries and situational awareness updates
- Contribute to news clips and operational reporting products
- Provide data-driven insights to inform leadership decisions
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in public affairs, media analysis, communications, or a related field, or a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related discipline
- Strong analytical skills and ability to assess complex information environments
- Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced operational settings
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with media monitoring tools and the global media landscape
- Must possess an active Top Secret clearance
- Must be eligible for SCI sponsorship and able to obtain SCI
- Background in the CENTCOM AOR and regional geopolitical environment.
- Experience supporting Public Affairs and Information Operations in operational military environments.
- Knowledge of joint doctrine, including JP 3-61 (Public Affairs) and JP 3-13 (Information Operations).
- Regional media analysis experience across traditional and social media.
- Direct experience working with media personnel and supporting media engagement efforts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting military public affairs operations
- Knowledge of crisis communication strategies
- Familiarity with AP Style writing
Place of Performance
- McDill AFB, on site (No Hybrid/Telework/Remote Allowed)
Pay Range
- $70K to $82K
