Work Schedule: Includes daytime shifts and home call responsibilities


Position Overview:
The Hampton VA Medical Center is seeking three (3) highly qualified Board Certified/Board Eligible Anesthesiology Physicians to provide full-time, onsite clinical services to eligible Veterans. The physicians will deliver comprehensive anesthesiology services in a collaborative, multidisciplinary VA healthcare setting aligned with ASA standards of care.


Responsibilities:

  • Administer general and regional anesthesia for a variety of surgical procedures
  • Perform pre-anesthesia evaluations and post-anesthesia care
  • Maintain patient safety and deliver care in accordance with American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) guidelines
  • Participate in on-call coverage, including home call
  • Collaborate with surgical teams, nursing staff, and other providers
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation and comply with all VA and facility policies
  • Uphold the VA’s mission to serve Veterans with compassion, dignity, and excellence

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school

Licensure:

  • Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia
  • No history of suspended, revoked, or surrendered licenses

Board Status:

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA)

Certifications (Required):

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)

Citizenship:

  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder
  • Recency of Practice: Must have practiced within the last 6 months

Required Documentation (for submission):

  • Current CV with all employment gaps explained (within the last 6 months)
  • Three (3) professional references (name and contact information)
  • Copies of BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certifications
  • Valid medical license(s)
  • Board Certification/Eligibility proof
  • Immunization records: MMR, Hep B, Varicella, Tetanus (Td), Flu, PPD

Background checks, including:

  • Fingerprints

Credentialing & Privileging Timeline:

  • Must meet all requirements under VHA Directives 1100.20 and 1100.21
  • No clinical duties permitted before privileging by Hampton VAMC Medical Executive Board

  • EHR Training (once)
